Day 170 – Germany to Luxembourg (Patrick’s 6th Birthday!)

Posted By: Baigrie Family in Germany, Luxembourg

Happy Birthday dear Patrick, Happy Birthday to you!  We started the day with Patrick opening up his little pile of presents.  What do you buy a 6 year old boy who is travelling around the world with limited space to carry ‘stuff” – Lego, Lego and a little bit more Lego and an electric toothbrush.  He just announced yesterday he has his first wiggly tooth!

We were able to...

Day 169 Munich to Karlsruhe, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

We awoke to sunshine which meant we could enjoy a walk around the city of Munich.  I walked 200 metres down the road to the local Edeka supermarket and bought fresh bread, ham and quark yogurt for breakfast. We then wanted to see Munich before we hit the road again.  Even thought the hotel was close to the train line we thought it was easier to drive into Munich and find a...

Day 168 Nuremberg to Munich, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

Up and another day of driving, this time from Nurnberg (Nuremberg) to Munich (Munchen); a relatively small day of driving compared to the day before … or so we thought. We checked out of the hotel; bought some fresh bread for the road and set the GPS to get us to Munich.   Steve had requested we go to Munich; maybe to add to his beer bottle cap collection! We packed up,...

Day 166 Nuremberg, Germany (Playmobil Mini-Golf)

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

We all enjoyed a good night’s sleep in our apartment and headed out to our secret destination for the day.  Patrick has been requesting to play mini-golf since we first played in England and saw numerous courses in Sweden at campgrounds that kept his interest alive.  We kept holding off due to the expense as it would cost about $30 Aus for all of us to play.  I told him...

Round the World Schooling for 12 months.

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Harris's World (Aged 9), Patrick's World (Aged 5), Schooling

When we announced we were going to travel around the world for 12 months with our two sons aged 5 and 9, most people first asked us if we won the lotto and then the next question was “What about school?”  To be honest this was the least of my concerns given the list of things to do to leave Australia for 12 months was very long.  Most people made comments about what a...

Day 165 Nuremberg, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

At 4 am we were all wide awake and sitting in our car; not because we wanted to get a jump start on the driving but because we were rudely awakened by the shrill of the fire alarm in the hostel.  We did the right thing by evacuating and decided in the cold morning air that sitting in the car was the best place to be.  We were pretty sure there wasn’t a fire but we waited...

Day 164 Wernigerode, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

We started our day with a trip to the castle in Wernigerode (Verner-ger-road-ah).  We followed the signs leading to the Schloss (castle) and found it easily . We must have been early because we easily got a carpark within close walking distance to the castle.  We later noticed that you could park your car in the city and get a motorised train ride or horse and carriage up...

Day 163 – Bremen to Wernigerode via Hameln, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

Up early and ready to go and we got to enjoy a lovely buffet breakfast at the hotel in a bright and sunny breakfast room.  The last time we ate out for breakfast was when we stayed at the hotel in Flensburg, Germany; this was much nicer.  On the road to Hannover first and from my reading, the best thing to see was the Herrenhauser Garten.  We plugged in the details directly...

Day 162 – Hamburg to Bremen, Germany

Posted By: Baigrie Family in General, Germany

We all enjoyed a sleep in until 9am and then had to move fast to eat breakfast and pack up so we could check out at 10am.  We weren’t planning to see anything inparticular in Hamburg so we sat in the car and did a drive around the city.  Along the water’s edge there was a lot of activity and we realised they were starting to set up the streets for a triathlon that was going...

Days 160-161 – Brejning Strand, Denmark

Posted By: Baigrie Family in Denmark, General, Germany

Next morning we awoke to pouring rain.  I have never been so glad to be in a tiny cabin in my life!  It would have been an absolute nightmare to wake up in the tent and try to pack up camp in the driving rain.  It really was quite relentless and even packing things into the car was difficult (for Steve!) I had other jobs to do as part of renting the cabin such as sweeping,...
